ISEC NAS RA hosted an international expert from Vrije Universiteit Brussel
May 5, 2022On May 4, 2022, at the initiative of the Erasmus + National Office in Armenia, the International Scientific-Educational Center of the NAS RA hosted an international expert from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) to discuss the conceptual framework for science and higher education internalization and the prospects for expanding further cooperation.
The meeting was attended by representatives of international organizations and various higher education institutions in Armenia, some of them having the opportunity to join the discussion online.
Lana Karlova, Coordinator of the National Erasmus + Office in Armenia, opened the meeting by welcoming the participants and introduced the professor working at the Faculty of Engineering of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Since 2019 Prof. Dr Ir. Heidi Ottevaere chairs the Applied Physics and Photonics Department (TONA) of the Faculty of Engineering that is responsible for the Photonics Education Curriculum at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She is coordinating and working on multiple research and industrial projects focusing on the design, fabrication and characterization of different types of photonic components and systems in the field of biophotonics, interferometry, holography and imaging. Heidi Ottevaere has been responsible for several micro-optics-related research projects with Belgian as well as international companies (e.g. Melexis, Umicore, Autoliv, Anteryon, Mitsubishi and the Optoelectronic Industry and Technology Development Association in Japan). Within the European Coordination and Support Action ACTMOST (Access Centre To Micro-Optics Services and Technologies), she was involved in 7 industrial projects to assist SMEs, such as Anteryon (NL), EximiusLab (NL), mLED (UK) and Lovalite (FR), with photonics innovation.
The guests were also greeted by Yerjanik Zargaryan, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the International Scientific-Educational Center of the NAS RA, who underlined the importance of conducting such meetings leading to development of academic mobility.
Prof. Dr Ir. Heidi Ottevaere presented the advanced experience of international cooperation at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), current challenges, opportunities for students' short and long-term study, research projects and internship.
At the end of the meeting, the participants discussed the prospects for expanding further cooperation as well as implementation of the best European strategy in higher education internationalization.
Arusyak Harutyunyan, Head of the ISEC NAS RA Foreign Affairs, thanked the participants of the meeting for effective and important discussion and their impactful measures to achieve sustainable development in mobility programs.
