Research Activities
The author of 158 research papers, out of which 9 inventions; most of the papers are scientific publications in the international journals. Scientific publications are devoted to the issues of the semiconducting materials, high-temperature superconductors also photo-electro-chemical energy conversion.
Fundamental research was carried out in the field of electrophysical features of the semiconducting oxide, photo-electro-chemical features, photoelectrodes, and also physical features of the semiconducting electrolyte, which allowed to synchronize proposed parameters, to reach significant increase in the efficiency process of the photo-electro-chemical energy conversion. Based on the transient metal oxides, photoelectrodes are the best in their own way. For the first time, on the basis of the elaborated electrodes there was developed a photo-electrolytic device which was conversing solar energy into hydrogen and it was further awarded the order and diploma of the first degree of the ENEA (Exhibition of Economic Achievements) of the Republic of Armenia.
After the discovery of high-temperature superconductors in 1987, A. Sargsyan was among the first to receive and to study high-temperature ceramic superconductors, and in a quite short time, achieved sufficient success. As a result of the studies, there was developed a new type of magnetometer with superconducting sensory element, made from a high-temperature ceramics with Josephson medium. For the first time, the opportunity of using high-temperature superconductors as photoelectrodes in the photo-electro-chemical transformers was studied by A. Sargsyan with new perspectives and vision ahead.
A.Sargsyan's studies in the field of photo-electro-chemical conversion and high-temperature superconductivity are of the utmost interest and are widely cited by foreign researchers.
He has also considerable contribution in the preparation of scientific and academic staff. Due to his efforts and initiative, since 2004 there were organized Master Degree Programmes in the International Scientific Educational Center of NAS RA with the main focus on using wide and rich scientific potential of the National Academy of Sciences of RA for the preparation of high quality staff and replenishment of NAS RA scientific organizations with qualified brainpower.
