An academic conference on "Clinical Psychologist's Tools for Working with Addictions"

An academic conference on "Clinical Psychologist's Tools for Working with Addictions" was held at the NAS RA International Scientific Educational Center on April 11, 2022 which was organized by the joint efforts of the NAS RA ISEC Department of Psychology and "Gesture" Psychological Center.

The conference was attended by the teaching staff of the Department, lieutenant colonels of the General Staff of the RA Ministry of Defense, specialists of "Paul-Med" Mental Health Center, mothers and widows of martyred soldiers, Master’s students, post-graduate students, applicants, as well as students from different educational institutions.

The Head of the Psychology Department, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Assosiate Professor, Naira Hakobyan made an opening speech, emphasizing that the number of people suffering from different types of addiction is growing today. Addictions to psychotropic substances (including alcohol, tobacco), gambling, computers, video games, as well as certain foods and even various human relationships are very common today. At the root of any addiction lies psychological problems, as a result of which the addiction is easy to get, however, it can be very hard to get rid of it. The conference was aimed at identifying those issues, aiming to combine professional experience and skills, thus using effective tools to present the best solutions.

Based on their professional background, a psychologist, General Staff officer at the RA Ministry of Defense, Armine Hovhannisyan, the specialist of "Pavl-Med" Mental Health Center, Kristine Hovhannisyan, the director of the "Gesture" Psychological Center, Mariam Mehrabyan and the Master’s Students of the RA NAS ICC presented their own approaches and ideas.

After the scientific reports, the Master’s Students of the Psychology Department presented their internship reports carried out at the "Gesture" Psychological Center which were directly related to the problems of addictions.
