Visit of ISEC students to Matenadaran

December 3, 2024

On November 26, ISEC students visited the Mesrop Mashtots Matenadaran Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts. They met with Vahe Torosyan, Deputy Director of the Matenadaran for Science, and Emma Oropyan, Head of the Public Relations Department. During the meeting, Torosyan presented the main directions of Matenadaran's activities, the work carried out towards the development of Armenian studies, the achievements of the last period, in particular, the replenishment, which is carried out through donations, benefactors, as well as state support. The students were particularly interested in the work carried out in the direction of the development and formation of Armenian studies. According to the Deputy Director, Armenian studies centers established in 15 universities in 12 countries are currently funded from the state budget. It was noted that the manuscript heritage from the medieval period stored in the Matenadaran is of great interest to researchers and scientists.

Then the students took a tour of the Matenadaran Museum, familiarized with permanent and temporary exhibitions, in particular, manuscripts in Armenian and other languages, exhibition halls dedicated to medicine, as well as the exhibition opened in early October, "Spiritual Objects, Immortalized Images: Treasures of the Matenadaran and the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin." The latter is unique in that these unique samples of the Armenian cultural heritage are being demonstrated for the first time outside the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

ISEC students also had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the work of the newly established laboratory for biochemical research of manuscripts.

The initiator of the visit to Matenadaran was the Student Scientific Society of ISEC.
